Welcome to the Weekly Report. This week: 1. Who gave in 2014 2.  All the contribution data you could want -- and more 3. Disclosure surprises/nuggets 4. Smartest/dumbest moves and coming campaign developments First, some of the best comments of the week from my insiders: ----You don’t see county commissioners at (Gaming Commission) meetings, ever, which made the appearance by Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak last week noteworthy.  The Gaming Commission got it right by adhering to federal law...
I am sad to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest affront to freedom in the history of our nation. A few years ago, a great Nevadan, Brian Krolicki, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the state up to compete for the Republican National Convention. This momentous declaration came as a great beacon light of hope to dozens of Fourth Estate slaves who had been seared in the flames of the withering injustice of Tampa traffic jams. It came as a joyous...
Nevada voters do not support web gaming, don't like the idea of taxing business and are divided over the BLM's handling of the Cliven Bundy affair, a new survey says. The poll was conducted this week for Las Vegas Sands by Chris Wilson of 500 likely voters (margin of error is 4.4 percent). I've seen the poll; there are no questions designed to skew the results. But my guess is some may discount the results because the company, chaired by Sheldon Adelson, is against online gaming. It's real,...
A company owned by Jon Huntsman, Sr., gave $50,000 to the Nevada Republican Party, more than one third of what it raised this year as the GOP goes all-out to boost the underdog candidacy of lieutenant governor hopeful Sue Lowden. Huntsman previously gave to the Nevada Democratic Party because of his friendship with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, which I documented three years ago. The Hunstman family has been generous to Reid's campaign. The Huntsman company, Sun Valley Sotheby's...
UPDATED, 3:30 PM: Many will say that image is everything and that's what killed Vegas. Maybe it played a role, maybe not. But it's clear that the convention authority could not guarantee the venue during the accelerated timeline from the RNC -- they wanted to do in June -- and that not enough people wanted to pony up to give the RNC up-front money, as Dallas, for instance, has been willing to do. "There wasn't any real appetite to buy into it," one insider with intimate knowledge told me. "...
It depends on what the definition of "involvement" is. Ever since the Gaming Control Board issued its admonition to licensees, that has been the question. So Thursday afternoon, the state Gaming Commission will attempt -- maybe -- to clarify what that word means.  Here is the key line from the GCB: "Accordingly, unless the federal law is changed, the Board does not believe investment or any other involvement in a medical marijuana facility or establishment by a person who has received a gaming...
